Updates and Uparts

Its been a few weeks since my last post. My apologies about the sudden drop off. I am going to try to slow down a bit on posting everyday and try to post with more quality, about every one or two weeks, depending on how the work is going.

I am happy to say that I have been quite busy lately, I moved into an old Victorian on Dolores St. in San Francisco and have been working primarily on storyboard work which is exactly what I want to start doing more of. I recently went down to LA to pitch my boards to the client, which was thrilling because I love to pitch boards to groups of people, even though I felt fairly rushed and I had no sleep the two nights beforehand. But! I was amped on caffeine and before the shakes could set in i pulled off the pitch. Phew! Its great to be able to find some of your talents and put those to good use. Although this might not have been the best pitch ever, I still really love to present artwork to a group. I feel that I am good at this and I really enjoy doing it. Anyways, the pitch went well, I got some laughs from some added gags I threw in which made me feel that it went successfully.

A few weeks ago, I went to the Totoro Forest Project, an art auction held at Pixar where the proceeds go to saving the forest that inspired Miyazaki's Totoro, a classic animated film. The show was amazing and I got to meet some of my favorite artists. I got a chance to hang out with Oren Haskins and show him around SF a bit. All in all, a very fun event.

I have also been trying to work my way into more gallery shows and charity auctions. A few are coming up and I may try to organize a group show with a few friends soon.

Casual gaming seems to be blowing up. I have done some work for Zynga recently, I worked on the Pirates game. I created the artwork for the items, the locations and the banner. There is a lot more art than shown in this link, but you have to install the game in order to see the rest of the artwork. It seems like everyone and their mom in the bay area is working on casual games, which is very fun to be a part of a growing and developing industry. I will probably be working on more casual game art in the future, and possibly (hopefully!) my own.

Also, my website has been down. Sorry about that I am having some trouble with my host but hopefully that will be fixed at some point soon, and I will update my site to have more current artwork, as my site was about 4 years old. I am not saying that the art was bad, it didn't reflect the artwork that I am doing and am wanting to do now. So that is a big one on my list of todos.

I should probably end this post with some art. Here is a sketch for an illustration group, based on the Honored Matres from Frank Herbert's Dune Series. "They kill with their feet". Frank Herbert is one of my favorite authors with deep characters and fantastic situations in which to place those characters. I really enjoy linework with very minimal color work, so I have been experimenting with this style. I hope that you enjoy! Have a good weekend and I will post again soon with updates and more artwork.
